Interior Walls and Ceilings — Duracoat Matt
Duracoat Matt is the most widely used interior paint in Kenya. Consistent coverage, excellent colour retention, and a flat finish that works in any room. One litre covers 10–12m² per coat. For bedrooms, living rooms, corridors, and ceilings, this is the standard specification. For rooms that need wiping down regularly — kitchen, bathroom, children’s room — choose Duracoat Silk instead. The silk finish handles washing without the surface degrading.
Exterior Walls — Weathershield Only
Ruaka gets significant rainfall in the long rains (March to May) and short rains (October to December). Exterior walls face this water plus intense UV from Kiambu’s altitude. Standard interior paint on exterior walls will crack, blister, and peel within 12 months. Crown Weathershield is the correct product — UV-stable pigments, water-repellent formula, and anti-fungal properties. Applied correctly on primed plaster, it lasts 5–7 years before repainting.
Doors, Window Frames, and Metal — Crown Gloss

Do You Need a Primer? Yes.
New plaster is highly porous. Apply paint directly and it soaks in unevenly — you get patchy coverage, wasted paint, and a poor finish regardless of how many coats you add. A coat of wall primer seals the surface, evens out porosity, and improves adhesion. Budget for 10–15 litres of primer for a 3-bedroom house.
