6×6 Machine Cut Stone
The 6×6 stone is the standard residential walling block across Kenya. It produces a 150mm thick finished wall — sufficient for both external and internal residential walls when properly reinforced with ring beams and columns at the structural engineer’s specification. It is the most cost-effective option for a standard single or double storey residential house in Nairobi and Kiambu County.
9×9 Machine Cut Stone
The 9×9 stone produces a 225mm thick wall. This is used for boundary perimeter walls, heavily loaded external walls, basement walls, and foundations requiring greater bearing area. On most residential houses in Nairobi North, the 6×6 is the correct specification for the building itself, with 9×9 used only for the perimeter wall or as specified by the structural engineer.
